Vixa Car Wellness App for Tyre Safety
In October The AA launched Vixa, a car wellness application designed to assist drivers in maintaining their vehicles. Notably, 30% of nearly 11,000 users utilised Vixa’s AI-driven tyre checking tool to assess tyre safety. The app offers features such as analysing tyre tread depth, age, and wear, providing drivers with comprehensive tyre health reports and guidance on necessary replacements.
Driver Preferences for Spare Tyres
A survey conducted in February 2024 revealed that over 82% of drivers prefer having a spare wheel in their vehicle over a tyre inflation kit. Additionally, half of the respondents expressed willingness to pay extra for a spare wheel, highlighting the importance drivers place on having a spare tyre readily available.
Guidance on Tyre Safety & Maintenance
The AA has published several resources to educate drivers on tyre safety:
- Tyre Tread Depth: Emphasizing the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6 mm, the AA advises considering tyre replacement when tread depth reaches 3 mm to ensure optimal safety and performance.
- Tyre Lifespan: Discussing factors that influence tyre safety and longevity, the AA notes that while tyres typically wear out due to tread wear, environmental conditions can also affect their lifespan. Regular inspections for signs of cracking, especially for tyres over five years old, are recommended.
